About Maleny:-

Maleny perches on the Blackall Range amongst rolling hills and valleys. The highest point in this spectacular region is 549 metres (1800 feet) above sea level from which a 360-degree view can be obtained to the coast, Moreton and Bribie Islands, the Glass House Mountains and other provinces.

First settled in the 1870’s, Maleny has a community of over 3,000 People with many craft and variety shops, and local artists - Maleny is a place where everyone can see the tranquillity of green hills.

The forested, dairy-farming area of Maleny abuts the unique The Glasshouse Mountains. The visual attractions of views in all directions - the Pacific Ocean, the Great Dividing Range, Moreton Bay and more - are complemented by many quiet places such as Mary Cairncross Park on Mountain View Road, Lake Baroon to the North, cosy Restaurants, a host of varied and welcoming lodgings and many art and craft places.

NEW MAPLE STREET MAN

I’m the new Maple Street Man – That’s what I am!
A new car I bought – with my superan!
With my bulging wallet – And my Senior's pass
I’m a baby that boomed – into middle class.

Maleny is perfect – in a rural way
The perfect place – for our autumn days
So many of us came – hot on the hoof
The real estate value – went right through the roof!

I’m the new Maple Street man – I’m not complaining
Since we moved here – it hasn’t stopped raining.
One thing I'd change – the line down the middle
The head space that encourages – people to quibble

What about the floods? – they were outrageous
They showed us so many – deeds quite courageous
Men and women like us – broom pushers and sages
Folk you can count on – throughout all ages

Its hard to be Green – in that “eco” way.
We put solar on the roof – there’s so much cloud everyday
An electric car – might be morally strong
But my extension cord – is only ten metres long!

I'm the new Maple Street Man – Maple Street's full
More cars keep coming – its really not cool
It once was for humans – a hippy Noah's Ark
Now its a lottery – the prize, a park

A choice of supermarkets – healthy competition?
When you shop at one – mutters of sedition
Nutrition is fundamental – you need to buy food
Me? I shop at Woolworths – the parkings so good!

I'm the new Maple Street Man – really quite a sensation,
The new roundabout? – another magnificent creation
How do I deal with it? – I'm not particular
Avoiding the kerbing – that's my task vehicular!

The green hills of Maleny – they drew us here
Are they growing fainter – with each passing year?
Retirement village lifestyle – obliterating the view
Some find it alarming – there's always a few

The Maleny Credit Union – now its on the block
Will it be sold? – or just get the chop?
Its been here a while – a co–op with ranking
It has a new motto – UNsustainable banking

I'm the new Maple Street Man – I drink the local water
Now that its fluoridated – I wonder if I orta?
The things we treasure – they're all under threat
Will you do anything – their future to protect?

Was it worth the all the effort? – your blood swewat and tears?
If the things that you value – fall into arrears?
Retirement village living – God's waiting room
Is it really any better – Than embracing the tomb?

For that's where we're going – each in our own way
Down life's lonely road – Once we've stopped making hay
A journey unavoidable? – A walk with destiny?
To a playground in heaven? – Or a space that is free?

And so comes the time – when we must say farewell
A bit like an omen? – a toll of a bell?
An hiatus in the evening? – A wave of a hand?
A sense of completion – for the Old Maple Street Man.
